William Hugh Keffer passed away peacefully in the early morning hours on July 26th, 2016, while in the care of the Summit Acres Nursing Home in Caldwell; he was 77 years old. He was born on April 8th, 1939, in Youngstown, Ohio, to William R. and Wilda McKee Keffer. William held a special place in his heart for the outdoors. Other than spending time with his family, there was nothing he loved more than going camping, fishing, canoeing, or just sitting by a campfire; it is safe to say that after his children, and his beloved wife, his job was the most important thing in the world to him.
Every single day, no matter how hard times were, he stated how grateful that he was to have a job that he loved so deeply. William worked as an executive for the Boy Scouts of America, a career he began in 1966. He worked in many capacities for the BSA, and in many places during his tenure including the Stark County Council, The Mahoning Council, Detroit Council, the Great Trails Council, and the Muskingum Valley Council; where he was the Scout Executive for 14 years. He relished playing a game of Chess, when he wasn’t hiking a trail. He was always active in the Lutheran Church. On June 7th, 1959, he married the love of his life, Ruthmarie Calvin; with whom he shared 57 years of love.

He is predeceased by his Parents, and his son, Tim Keffer. William is survived by his loving wife, Ruthmarie Keffer, and their children, Megan Keffer, Captain Brian (Lisa) Keffer, and Erin (Lloyd) France. He also leaves behind to cherish his memory his grandchildren, Jason Keffer, Tara (Ben) Keffer Givens, and Jacob Keffer; as well as his great-grandchildren, Rilee and Drake Givens.

Per his wishes, William will be cremated, and a reception will be held for him at a later date at the Boy Scout Council Office located at 734 Moorehead Ave., Zanesville, Ohio. In lieu of flowers his family requests that donations be made to the BSA Muskingum Valley Council, campership fund. Farus Funeral Home of New Concord is caring for the Family.
