Samuel “Tom” Thomas Bliss, age 87, of Hiram, GA, passed away on Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 29, 1933 in Chandlersville, OH on his family's farm. Tom was raised on the farm and as a young man joined the Army. He served in the US Army from 1956 to 1958. He used his military pay to purchase a portion of the family farm. In 1961, he met and married the love of his life-Emma Juanita Bliss. They had one son, Darin Bliss, and two daughters, Moni Nalls and Thomanitah Bliss. Mr. Bliss loved the simple things in life. God, Family, and Farming. He raised cattle, grew corn, oats, and grains for over 70 years on his land. Pancakes were his specialty every Sunday morning before church with his family. He was a gentle and generous man. He worked hard yet shared what he had and did so unreservedly. He retired from Racine Hydraulics in 1992. Tom and Juanita retired from farming in 2011 and moved to Georgia to be closer to their children. They celebrated 59 years together this year.
Tom was a former member of the Chandlersville United Methodist Church for many years. He is a present faithful member of the Dallas First United Methodist Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Samuel L. Bliss and Eva Faye Bliss and his sister, Edith Bliss.
Mr. Bliss is survived by his loving wife, Emma Juanita Bliss of Hiram, GA. His son, Darin Bliss of Hiram, GA. Daughters Moni Nalls (Roger) of Villa Rica, GA and Thomanitah Bliss of Hiram, GA. His brother, Robert Bliss (Joy) of Chandlersville, OH, sisters; Catherine Jack of Columbus, OH, Martha Jean Adkins (Roger) of Chandlersville, OH, grandchildren; Nathan Potts of Dallas, GA, Nicholas Potts (Brooke) of Dallas, GA, Brandon Potts of Dallas, GA, Luke and Olivia Nalls of Villa Rica, GA. And two great grand-daughters- Ameliah and Alaina Potts, and many nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service for family will be held at 3 pm on Saturday, October 3, 2020. Pastor Dee Rader will officiate the service. He will be laid to rest in the Duncan Falls Cemetery with Full Military Honors provided by Morgan County Veterans Association. The Farus Funeral Home of Duncan Falls is caring for the Bliss family.
