Rose Etta Blackwood, 87, of Cambridge, Ohio died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, January 13, 2022. Predeceased by her parents Richard and Gertrude Archer, husband David Blackwood and brother Ivan Archer, Rose is survived by her children, Dee (Jim) Kovacik, Tom (Kenda) Blackwood, and Marjorie (Tim) Pickworth; her grandchildren, Misty (Adam) Lawrence, Dusty (Alicia) Johnson, Benjamin (Sarah) Blackwood, Jon Thomas Blackwood, Macy Blackwood, Ann Marie Pickworth, and Jaylin Pickworth; and three great-grandchildren, Haley, Scarlett and Tristan.
Rose was born on June 23, 1934 in Noble County. She graduated from Cambridge High School in 1953. After receiving her teaching degree from OSU`, she earned a Master’s in School Administration from OU. She taught elementary students for 30 years in Guernsey County, including serving as principal of Byesville Elementary and as Federal Program Coordinator for Rolling Hills School District.
Rose loved the Lord and serving others from teaching children to encouraging the elderly in her church and community. Her pride and joy were her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed time with her friends and extended family, including shopping with her special niece Dawn. She took joy in gardening in her flower beds.
Farus Funeral Home of New Concord is serving the family. At the request of the deceased, no calling hours will be observed. Burial will be in New Concord Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to The Freedom House Warming Center or First Baptist Church in Cambridge. A charity event for Hospice will be hosted by Country Bits in March in memory of Rose Etta Blackwood.
