Jerry Lee Starkey, 78, of Zanesville, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 17, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Jerry was born in Zanesville on May 19, 1942. He is the son of the late Charles Edward and Orpha Mildred (Menhorn) Starkey. Jerry was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed spending time in the woods coon hunting, hunting for mushrooms, riding his four-wheeler. He was an avid bowler and golfer. He was also a NASCAR and WWE wrestling fan. Jerry never met a stranger and he always had a joke to tell and a smile on his face. He worked for Mattlingly Foods in Zanesville as a driver and also for over 20 years working at the Red Head Service Station in Duncan Falls. He is a member of the Eagles and the American Legion Post #29. Jerry is survived by his wife of 40 years, Shirley (Bowers) Starkey, whom he married December 23, 1984; his sons, Michael, Kenneth, and Jimmy Starkey, and Steve (Tammy) Neff; his grandchildren, Matao, D.J. (Amanda) Tittle, Tiffani (P.J.) Poole, Katelyn (Laine) Crawford, Mark (Chelcee Spring) Murray, and Christopher (Amy) Ditter, who is a U.S. Marine currently serving his country in China; His great-grandchildren, Sarah and Aubrey Ditter; his brothers, Steve, John, David, and Thomas Starkey; his sisters, Joy Talbert, Sheila Suttles, Bonnie Mahon, Nancy Swingle, and Carol Gee; His brother-in-law Everett (Tammy) Bowers; his special friends, Ruth and John Minosky; and his special friends and neighbors, Dale Bateson and Gary Campbell and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Jerry is preceded in death by his son, Keith Allen Neff; His brothers, Richard, Fred, Larry, and Robert Starkey; his brother and sister-in-law Rich and Linda Bowers and his mother-in-law, Julia A. Bowers. The family would like to thank the staff, nurses and aides at Genesis Hospice. Visitations will be from 11am to 1pm on Wednesday, January 20, 2021, at the Farus Funeral Home of Duncan Falls, with funeral services immediately following at 1pm.
