Jerald Lee Maxwell, known as Jerry to many of his family and friends, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at the age of 79.
Jerry was born on March 12, 1944, in Zanesville, Ohio, the son of the late Virgil and Nellie (Shields) Maxwell and the oldest of seven children. After graduating from Maysville High School, in 1962, Jerry earned a solo-flight pilot’s license following flying lessons. He voluntarily enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his Country during the Vietnam War, returning home after his honorable discharge. He joined his bride, Clara Rose (Whitmire) in holy matrimony, on April 18, 1969; together, they reared three daughters, Elizabeth (Clinton) Wright, Ruth (Cory) Damm, and Danielle (Timothy) Morgan. After trusting Jesus as his personal Savior through the ministry of Calvary Baptist Church and the witness of his future wife, Jerry and his family served Christ while attending Maranatha Bible Church and, later, as members of Westwood Baptist Church. In 2001, he retired from Owens-Corning Fiberglass, of Newark, Ohio, after more than thirty-three years of employment. Although Jerry was a reserved and sensitive soul, he had a profound influence on all the lives he touched.
Jerry is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law; ten grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; one sister, Cathy (Mike) Shaeffer; and two brothers, Jay Maxwell and John (Mary Ann Petrosky) Maxwell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years; his parents; one sister, Joyce Shaeffer; and two brothers, Jeffrey Maxwell and Joel Gregory Maxwell.
Visitations will be 11 to 1 PM on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at the Farus Funeral Home, 383 Main Street, Duncan Falls, Ohio. Funeral services will be held 1 PM on Saturday. Pastor Steve Cheney will officiate the service. Jerry will be laid to rest beside his wife in Chandlersville Cemetery. Full military honors will be provided by the US Army Honor Guard and the VFW Post #1058.
