Jefferson H. Massey

Atty. Jefferson Harvey Massey, 79, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2024, being a resident of the Zanesville/Philo area.

Atty. Massey was born to his beloved late Mother Marjorie Elizabeth Snack Massey and his late Father Jefferson Leonard Massey on March 4, 1945. Atty. Massey was a 1963 Philo High School Class President and Valedictorian prior to being awarded a major William Shinnick Scholarship. He received a BS, MA, and Doctorate degree from The Ohio State University and the University of Akron. Atty. Massey was a Philo High School History Teacher for five years prior to entering Law School. He owned and operated Massey Law Office in Zanesville, Ohio, for over thirty years. Atty. Massey loved animals, especially cats. He also enjoyed going on walks outside, woodworking, creating art work, and collecting pottery and sports cards.

Atty. Massey is survived by his step-daughter, Michelle (Dominic) Shaw; his step-grandchildren, Cheyenne Shaw and Austin Shaw; his siblings, Dorothy (William) L. Rucker and Donna (Gerald) J. Kimpel; his nephew, Ronald Kelso; his ex-spouse and long time secretary Darlene Massey; as well as many friends.

Atty. Massey is preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made in Atty. Massey’s name to the Animal Shelter Society, 1430 Newark Road, Zanesville, Ohio 43701.

In keeping with his wishes, a caring cremation will take place. A graveside service will take place at 1 pm on Monday, April 29, 2024, at Sugar Grove Cemetery in Chandlersville, Ohio. The Farus Funeral Home of Duncan Falls is caring for the Massey family.
