J. Harold Hatfield Obituary

James Harold Hatfield, 86 of Zanesville, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2020 while under the care of Genesis Hospice – Morrison House.

Harold was born in Duncan Falls on January 24, 1934. He is the son of the late Harley “Snow” and Dorothy (McCreary) Hatfield.

Harold graduated from Philo High School, class of 1952.  He was a retired Iron worker with Local #172.  He proudly served as a paratrooper in the 325 AIR, 82nd Airborne Division of the United States Army from 1954 to 1956.  A well-known handyman, he would help anyone who called seeking assistance with a project or needed something fixed.  He was also passionate about the outdoors.  He was an avid fisherman, trapper, and hunter, having also taught hunter safety courses at one point.

Harold is survived by his grandson, Josh (Jenna) Hatfield of Cambridge; his granddaughter, Jenn (Jason) Focht of Fremont; his great-grandsons, Nicholas, Parker, Noah and Tim; his brothers, Fred (Virginia) Hatfield, Harley “Skeet” (Linda) Hatfield, and Pete (Shirley) Hatfield; and many nieces, nephews, and close friends.

In addition to his parents, Harold is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Evelyn Ruth (Richardson) Hatfield, who passed away April 22, 2020; his daughter, Kathy Ann Hatfield; his son, Bill Hatfield; and his sister, Marty Lou Hatfield.

The family would like to extend a special Thank You to the staff of Genesis Hospice for their compassionate care.

Please consider making memorial contributions in Harold’s name to the Muskingum County Animal Shelter Society, 1430 Newark Road, Zanesville, Ohio 43701 or to www.animalsheltersociety.org

In keeping with Harold’s wishes, a caring cremation will take place and a private memorial service will be held at a later date.  He will be laid to rest beside his wife and with full military honors provided by VFW Post #1058, American Legion Post #29 and the US Army Color Guard.
