Elmer Gibson Obituary

Elmer Gibson, 69 of Zanesville, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 19, 2021, doing what he loved, working in the oil field.

Elmer was born on August 7, 1951 in Raven, KY. He is the son of the late Hershel and Edna Mae Gibson. Elmer managed to keep his Kentucky twang even though he moved to Ohio with his brothers when he was only 15 years old. Elmer was an ornery old man who never met a stranger! He loved to laugh and tell stories. He always had a smile and a big hug waiting. He said what he thought, and you always knew where you stood with him. He spent his lifetime helping friends and neighbors even if it meant not getting his honey-do list done for his wife, just ask her, she’ll tell you. He was the Co-Owner and Operator of McKenzie Drilling, and Millers Flowers & Grandmas Country House with his beloved wife, Vickie, who managed to put up with him for 49 years of marriage. Elmer and Vicki shared many laughs and some arguments, but they always shared a strong love for one-another.

In addition to his wife, he leaves 3 children that cherish all the memories that took a life time to make, Victoria (Shaun Whitehair) Gibson, Damon (Dixie) Gibson, and Shane (Caren) Gibson. They enjoyed camping and boating to sports with the boys, and especially being involved in 4-H, showing many animals at the fair. Market hogs were always their favorite animal to show. The love they all had for this carried over to all his grandkids, Savannah (Bryce Suchland) and Madison Gibson, Braiden Gibson, Damen, Gavin (Hormann), Ellesyn, Kaisyn and Kiesyn Gibson, who all were taught the value of hard work, and having fun, from their Papaw Elmer. The grandkids might not have liked cleaning the stalls in the barn, but they loved getting to spend the time with their Papaw, and will keep those memories in their hearts forever. He will also be missed by his brother, James (Vicki) Gibson; his sister, Martha (Carl) Thomas; many nieces and nephews; and many friends and coworkers from Autozone, where he worked for over 20 years.

Friends and family may call from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm, on Friday, July 23, 2021, at the Farus Funeral Home of New Concord, 63 W. Main Street, New Concord, Ohio, 43762, where funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday. Pastor Joe DiVincenzo will officiate the service. Elmer will be laid to rest in St. Paul Cemetery.
