Dorothy Jean Dickson

Dorothy Jean (McLaughlin) Dickson, age 92, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2022, after her long time struggle with dementia.

Dorothy was born in Blue Rock to the late Gilbert and Frances (Weaver) McLaughlin.  On January 16, 1955 Dorothy married the love of her life, the late Lawrence S. Dickson.  They resided in Columbus while raising their children.  Dorothy was very involved in their school activities and volunteered as a teacher’s aide and library assistant.  Once the kids were gone, Dorothy and Lawrence moved to Newark with their Little Debbie Snack Company route.  Dorothy enjoyed crafting, sewing and was the ultimate cake decorator.  She enjoyed square dancing and making the seasonal outfits for herself and friends.  In her later years, with her “Go with the Flow” attitude, she enjoyed outdoor concerts, viewing  Christmas light displays and family gathering.  Dorothy was a member of the Outville Presbyterian Church.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter Karyn (Robert) Grieser of Delaware and her son, Gary (Pam) Dickson of Johnstown.  She has two grandchildren, Jessica and Matthew Dickson, who were the lights of her life.  She is also survived by many caring nieces and nephews and her in-laws:  Janet Dickson (Duncan Falls),  Wanda Lucas (Heath) and Dana and Florence Dickson (Huron).

In addition to her parents, Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence S. Dickson, who passed away on January 8, 2016; and her loving sister Louise Edwards, and brothers Charles, John and Carl McLaughlin.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Bella Care Hospice at 110 Polaris Parkway, Suite 302, Westerville OH 43082 or Outville Presbyterian Church at 6463 Outville Rd. SW, Pataskala, OH 43062, in Dorothy’s name.

Visitations will be held from 4 pm to 7 pm on Friday, May 20, 2022 at the Farus Funeral Home of Duncan Falls, where funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 am.  Pastor Kae Merold will officiate the service.  Dorothy will be laid to rest next to her husband in Duncan Falls Cemetery.

The family wants to thank all of the staff at Delaware Court Healthcare and Bella Care Hospice for their compassion and care of Dorothy at the end of her life.   She will be remembered by many for her smile.
