Dora Lovella Samson Rutter, 91 of Philo, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on April 8, 2021 at the Morrison House while under the care of Genesis Hospice.
Dora Lovella was born in ‘Taylorsville’ later known as Philo on April 16, 1929. She is the daughter of the late Albert and Dora Emma (Buck) Samson. She loved her Lord and her church and is now with her Lord and Savior. She loved to travel and she made many friends from across the country thru her many jobs. She worked for several years as a waitress and camp hostess for both Terrora Campgrounds in Tallulah Falls, Ga. and Lake Juliette Campgrounds in Georgia; she and her husband ran their family Tire Shop and Service Station in Ft. Myers, Florida until they returned home to Philo. She enjoyed going to flea markets and bargain hunting, she also enjoyed doing helping hands at the church and jewelry making and her crafts. She was a member of the Duncan Falls Baptist Church and she was a very loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother.
Dora Lovella is survived by her four sons, Roy “Sonny” (Mary) Rutter Jr; Walter “Walt” Rutter, Roger Rutter and Larry (Holly) Rutter; her two daughters, Joy Petterson and Virginia “Genny” (Richard) Dix; her 22 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and 36 great great grandchildren; and two sisters in law, Peggy Samson and Phyllis Samson.
In addition to her parents, Dora Lovella is preceded in death by her husband, Roy L. Rutter who passed away in May 20, 2006 and her grandson Brandon E. Peterson, and three brothers, Robert ‘Bob’ Samson, Karl Samson and Vail Samson.
Visitations will be 1 to 3 pm on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at the Farus Funeral Home of Duncan Falls. Funeral services will be held at 3 pm with Pastor Gerry Wade officiating the service. She will be laid to rest in the Duncan Falls Cemetery.
