Darrell Lee Garrett, 78, passed away peacefully at his Duncan Falls home, with his wife of 52 years by his side, on May 4, 2021 while under the care of Shrivers Hospice.
Graveside services will be held at 11 am on Saturday, July 10, 2021. Pastor Don Harris will officiate the services. He will be laid to rest in the Dutch Hill Cemetery with full military honors, provided by the American Legion Post #24.
Darrell was born in Eagleport on June 16, 1942. He is the son of the late William H. and Erma (Rhinebarger) Garrett. He began working at the Zanesville Fire Department in 1971 and served as Fire Chief from 1986-2002. He was a member of the Solomon Lutheran Church of McConnelsville and he attended the Trinity Lutheran Church in Zanesville. He was a member of the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFF), American Legion Post # 29, the AMVETS Post #51 of Buckeye Lake, and he also served his country in the US Air Force.
Darrell is survived by his wife of 52 years, Linda (Moore) Garrett whom he married November 1, 1968; his children, Lisa (Scott) Durant of Buckeye Lake; John Garrett of Orient, Ohio and Matt (Brooke) Garrett of Moxahala, Ohio; his grandchildren, Mila, Parker, Paige, Madison, and Grant Garrett, his sister, Eldora Campbell of Perry, Georgia; his sister in law, Junita Garrett; and several nieces, nephews and his constant companion Toby.
In addition to his parents, Darrell is preceded in death by his brothers, William Garrett and Bobby Garrett; his sisters, Ermina McElroy, Norma Sweeny and Donna Kovaleski; and his brothers-in-law Donald McElroy and Pete Campbell.
