Charles Emmett Mock, 82, of New Concord, became part of the Universe at 12:20 AM, August 31, 2020, at Genesis Hospital of Zanesville. He was born on December 15, 1937 in New Concord. He enjoyed sports, such as golfing, football, as well as baseball, and would often watch events on T.V., or occasionally attend games. He enjoyed traveling with his family, and would often travel out west. He traveled with Barbara to see Duane, when he was stationed in Germany, in the Army.
He graduated from New Concord High School in 1956. He earned his Bachelor's Degree from Muskingum University. He earned his M.ed from The University of St Francis. In his younger years, he was a member of the Boy Scouts, he served as a camp counselor, he helped at the Mock Funeral Home, which was operated by his late Parents, Bob and Harriet Mock, as well as helping with road work for the State of Ohio in the summer. In addition, he carried Newspapers for the Daily Jeffersonian.
He went on to serve his Nation as a United States Marine. He later became a teacher, before returning to the local area to work at the Guernsey Co. Health Department, before transitioning to the Cambridge State Hospital, where he retired in 1991 as a Social Worker. During his retirement years, he worked at the former Shegog's IGA, now known as Riesbecks, in New Concord. In addition, he was a member of New Concord Masonic Lodge and Malta Lodge #118. He also was a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Stars, Laura Chapter.
He was preceded in death, by his Parents, the late Robert Lee and Harriet Elizabeth Mock. He is survived by his wife Barbara, whom he married on August 1, 1969, as well as his son Duane. We are going to miss your shining face, we think and wonder why? We may cry or smile, but at the end of the day we know we are one day closer to you....
Memorial contributions may be made to the United States Marine Corps, the Masonic Lodge, OES Laura Chapter #264, Muskingum University, or the University of St Francis. May your spirit soar in freedom, from the fears that gripped so tight. May you find the peace you searched for as you wandered in the night. May your mind be clear and calm and your tender heart be warm. May you have no need for strength now, may there never be another storm.
Masonic Funeral Rights will be provided by Malta Lodge #118 at 6 pm following visitations. Ohio Eastern Star Laura Chapter #264 services will be held at 6:30 pm following the Masonic services.
Calling hours will be on Thursday, from 2 pm to 6 pm. The Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 AM. Friday at the Farus Funeral Home of New Concord, with the Memorial Procession following afterward, on an eternal journey to the Cemetery. The graveside service will take place at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Military Funeral Honors will be provided by the United States Marine Corps Color Guard and the Guernsey County Veterans Council. The arrangements are entrusted the Farus Funeral Home of New Concord, formerly known as the Mock-Miller Funeral Home.
