Walter "Woody" Woodruff Jr, 91 of Duncan Falls, joined his wife Mary and their son Clayton in the House of our Lord on May 30, 2014. Woody was born in Columbus on March 6, 1923, the son of the late Walter and Rose (Siegwardt) Woodruff Sr. He resided in Duncan Falls for nearly sixty years, moved to the Abbott Home in 2012 and most recently the Beckett House in New Concord. He was a very active member of the Wayne Township Fire Department having joined in 1958. He has over 56 years of service to the department having served as Chief from 1973-1975, he also held the positions of Asst. Chief, Lieutenant, Secretary and Trustee. Woody was also the 'man behind the car show awards' for many years putting his woodworking talents to building the trophies. He was the former owner of Zane Auto Parts, he was a member of the Philo/Duncan Falls Lions Club, Layette Lodge F & AM #79, Cyrene Commandery Knights Templar in Zanesville, Valley of Cambridge Scottish Rite and he proudly served his country in the US Army serving during World War II, stationed in France with the 522nd Ordnance HM Company. Woody is survived by his daughter-in-law Sally (Kennel) Woodruff, his granddaughter Elizabeth (John) Nichwitz and his grandson Michael (Heather) Woodruff. He was Peepa to them and six great-grandchildren Rachel and Rylee Nichwitz, Benjamin, Bailey, Brooke and Bryn Woodruff. In addition to his parents, Woody is preceded in death by his wife Mary E. Woodruff who passed away October 18, 2009 and his son Clayton Woodruff, three sisters and one brother. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Honor of Woody to the Wayne Township Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 336, Duncan Falls, OH 43734 Visitations will be 4 to 8 pm Monday, June 2, 2014 at The Farus Funeral Home of Duncan Falls where funeral services will be 1 pm Tuesday with Frank Clifton officiating.
