Viola Mae Abrams

June 5, 1928 — August 31, 2021

Cumberland

Viola Mae (Holdren) Abrams, 93 of Cumberland, went quietly home to be with her Lord on August 31, 2021, surrounded by her loving family.

Viola was born in Derwent, Ohio, on June 5, 1928. She is the daughter of the late Ed and Fae (Stephens) Holdren. Viola graduated from Buffalo High School. She married the love of her life, Hubert Abrams, on December 1, 1945. Viola was the mayor of Cumberland for 18 years until her retirement, and worked at Champion Spark Plug and Essex Wire. Viola and Hubert ran the service station at the corner of Main and State Route 340 in Cumberland, and they also ran the bait and grocery store in Cumberland. In their earlier years, they had a gas and grocery store at Derwent and operated several fruit and vegetable stands across Guernsey County. But most of all, Viola was a mother first and enjoyed being a grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She was a loving member of the Cumberland United Methodist Church, and Cumberland Grange for years.

Viola is survived by her children, Pastor Bill Abrams of Woodsfield, Karen (Jeff) Shields of Caldwell, Sharon (David) Fisher of Cumberland, and Terry Abrams of Cumberland; a special granddaughter, and caregiver, Tammy (Paul) Hill of Cambridge; and her 11 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Joyce Holdren; and two lifelong friends, Heady Hare and Ruth Elain LindenMeyer.

In addition to her parents, Viola is preceded in death by her husband; her daughters, Carolyn Jefferys, and Delorse Keith; her son, Jeff Abrams; her granddaughter, Michelle Kelley; and her brothers, Robert Holdren and Donald Holdren.

Visitations will be held from 2pm to 7pm, on Saturday, September 4, 2021, at the Farus Funeral Home of Cumberland, 343 West Main Street, Cumberland, OH, 43732. Funeral Services will be held at 1pm, on Sunday, at the Cumberland United Methodist Church, 441 West Main Street, Cumberland, OH, 43732.
