Thomas "Ted" Neptune

March 11, 1940 — August 24, 2025

New Concord

Thomas “Ted” Neptune, 85, of New Concord, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 24, 2025, at the Beckett House, surrounded by his loving family.

Ted was born on March 11, 1940, in New Concord, a son of the late William T. and Jane (Wood) Neptune. Throughout his life, he was devoted to hard work and service. He spent part of his career as a technician with Tennessee Gas and later worked alongside his brother as co-owner of Neptune Timber until his retirement. He was also proud to be a lifelong area farmer in the community he loved.

Ted was a member of Rix Mills Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed many hobbies, especially golfing, but his greatest joy came from the time he shared with his family and grandchildren.

Dad loved farming and was proud of the land he worked every day.  He enjoyed getting up in the early mornings and tending to his cattle and land.  He and mom taught us girls about responsibility and respect, not only for the land, but for people who came into our lives.  He loved his family, his children, his siblings, his neighbors, and all his golfing friends and was so thankful for his sons-in-law.  When he saw his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, his face would light up with that beautiful smile we love, and his sparkling blue eyes shone with pure joy.  When it came time for bailing hay, picking corn, combining oats or any of the daily chores, if he couldn’t do them himself, we all worked together as a team with dad at the helm.  He loved his tractors, and more often than not if you came to see him, he was out somewhere on one of them or on his four wheeler.  Dad was one of the hardest working men we have ever known.  He taught us the importance of family, and we are so happy to have grown up on the farm and be the daughters of a farmer we proudly call Dad.

He is survived by his three daughters, Debbie (Bill) Smith, Pam (Steve) Davis, and Sherry (Rusty) Pennell; his grandchildren, Amanda (Chad) Smith, Ryan (Courtney) Smith, Steven Davis, Ted (Jordan) Davis, Dirk (Amy) Pennell, Mike (Chelsi) Pennell, A.J. Pennell, and Paige Pennell; and his great-grandchildren. Ted also leaves behind his siblings, Phil Neptune, Charlie Neptune, Bob Neptune, and JoAnn (John) Wycoff; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law David (Diane ) West; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends; he also leaves a son, William and his family.

In addition to his parents, Ted was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Louella (Hina) Neptune, whom he married on February 6, 1960, and who passed away on January 20, 2016; his three sisters-in-law Nancy, Judy and Betty.

A private graveside service is being held at Zion Cemetery, where Ted will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife, Louella, with Pastor Jim Gibson officiating.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making memorial contributions in Ted’s name to the Central Ohio Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (https://www.cff.org/give-monthly), in support of his great-nephew, Tyson Woodard.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Beckett House, Guernsey Hospice and a heartfelt thank you to the caregivers who surrounded Ted with such love and dignity in his final days.

A celebration of Ted’s life will be held from 1 to 3 pm, Saturday, August 30, 2025 at the Norwich Lodge, 10655 Main Street, Norwich, Ohio.
