Starling D. Green passed away peacefully in his home after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family, on Saturday, February 18, 2017; he was 86 years old.  He was born near Alledonia in Belmont County, Ohio on December 23, 1930 to Roy and Hazel (Lucas) Green.

Starling was a retired educator. He began his teaching career with the Zanesville City Schools in 1951. After graduating from Muskingum College in 1952, he worked as an elementary teacher and a principal in the Alliance City Schools, Alliance, Ohio from 1952 to 1969. He then served as an elementary principal with the West Branch Local Schools (Mahoning County) (1969-1973). After completing a Doctor of Education degree at the University of Akron in 1975, he worked for a year as an administrator for the Vinton County Schools. From 1976 to 1988, he served as an Assistant Superintendent for the Franklin Local School District. For many years after retiring in 1988, he held a part-time teaching position in the department of education at Muskingum College as a field experience/student teacher supervisor, retiring again in 2006.

He was a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in both Alliance, Ohio and Zanesville, serving as an elder. In recent years, Duncan Falls Baptist Church has been his church home. He also served on the local water board and was a past member of the Lions Club.

While Starling left the family farm to pursue a career in education, his heart drew him back to his roots in later years. He and his family frequently spent time together at his boyhood home in rural Belmont County. He was the ultimate do-it-yourselfer and a lifelong learner.  In earlier years, he spent many summers camping and traveling with his family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Nolajean (Rankin) Green and his three daughters: Sharon Green of New Albany, Brenda (David) Kuhn of Columbus, and Gretchen (David) Rouch of Ada.  He also leaves six grandchildren: Lydia and Elsa Kuhn, Zachary (Jamie) Rouch, Joshua (Kayti) Rouch, Moriah (Jonathan) Roseler, and Morgan Rouch, as well as a brother, Austin Green, of Alachua, Florida, a nephew, two nieces, and several cousins.  He is predeceased by his parents, an infant son, and his sister-in-law, Lela Green.

Friends and family are invited to attend calling hours for Starling at the Farus Funeral Home in Duncan Falls, Ohio on Friday, February 24 from 4:00 to 7:00.  Friends and family will again gather at the Duncan Falls Baptist Church for a memorial service on Saturday, February 25 at 11:00. Burial will take place at a later date.  Donations may be made in memory of Starling to either the Duncan Falls Baptist Church building fund, 240 Mill Street, P.O. Box 228, Duncan Falls, Ohio 43734 or The Christian and Missionary Alliance, Global Ministries, 8595 Explorer Drive, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80920.
