Sonny Carl Elson
January 2, 1949 — July 25, 2016
Sonny Elson, 67 of Philo, passed away on July 25, 2016 at Ohio State Wexner Medical Center following a brief illness.
Sonny was born in Newark, Ohio on January 2, 1949. He is the son of the late Carl and Ida (Anderson) Elson. He worked for several years at Campbells Market in Duncan Falls; he was an avid hunter and fisherman and he loved to travel; he was a lifetime member the American Legion Post #71 in Roseville; a lifetime member of the VFW Post #1058 in Zanesville. He proudly served his country in the US Marine Corps serving in Vietnam.
Sonny is survived by his wife Donna (Riley) Elson whom he married October 14, 1978; his children Bob (Erika) Riley of Hurricane, WV. Eric (Michelle) Elson of Zanesville and Kim (Ben) Durant of Zanesville; his grandchildren Gaige, Evan. Ryan. Erica, Dhalton, Tori, Miya, Gage and Sophie Jo and his great grandson Max.
In addition to his parents. Sonny is preceded in death by his brother Robin Elson and a step-grandson Matthew Walker.
Friends and family are welcome to attend calling hours from 4 to 7 pm on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at the Farus Funeral Home in Duncan Falls where funeral services will be 3 pm, Thursday with Pastor Jay Flinn and Pastor Jerry Sutton officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Duncan Falls Cemetery with full Military Honors provided by the American Legion Post #71 and the US Marines Corps Color Guard.
