Sondra J. Philip

Sondra “Sonnie” J. Philip, 86 of Duncan Falls, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at the Clay Gardens Place surrounded by her loving family.

Sonnie was born on January 10, 1938 in Zanesville. She is the daughter of the late Irvil and Pauline (Larson) Hickman. She worked for Albers Grocery Store in Zanesville, Curls Royal Blue in Duncan Falls, and for the Cedar Hill Apartment Complex. Sonnie was a member of the Olive Branch Chapter 251 OES.

Sonnie is survived by her son, Kevin (Debbie) Philip of Zanesville; her grandchildren, Matthew (Carrie) Philip, Christopher (Anna) Philip, Jaime (Cody)Friend, and Jennifer Philip (Justin Dillahunt); her great-grandchildren, Aaron, Andrew, Adam, Ky-Mani, Elodie, Boone, Poesy, and Huck Philip, Bella, Karter, and Kolson Friend; her brother, Carlos (Buck) Hickman of Dresden; her sister-in-law, Elaine Hickman of Texas; her daughter-in-law, Diane Philip of Toledo; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and her loving cat Sheldon.

In addition to her parents, Sonnie is preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. Philip III, whom she married on October 27, 1956, and who passed away on February 15, 2014; her son, Robert C. Philip IV, who passed away on January 20, 1991; as well as her brother, Gary F. Hickman.

Sonnie was a beautiful soul who poured love, support, and compassion on all those around her.  She had an infectious smile and sense of humor that will forever be remembered by all who knew her. She loved her kitchen and would spend hours preparing an incredible meal you would never forget. She also loved her yard and flowers, which were always immaculate and something she took particular pride in. She was a tremendous Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother, and Friend, she will be missed beyond description by those of us who had the privilege of having her touch our lives in any way.

Visitations for Sonnie will be held from 4 to 7 pm on Monday, July, 15, 2024 at the Farus Funeral Home of Duncan Falls. Eastern Star services will be held at 7 pm on Monday following visitations. A funeral service will be held at 11 am Tuesday at the funeral home. Jamie Harrop will officiate the service. Sonnie will be laid to rest beside Robert in the Duncan Falls Cemetery immediately after.
