Shirley Winifred Riggle

Shirley W. Riggle, 93, was peacefully called home to the Lord on October 30, 2015 while in the care of the Clay Gardens Place Senior Living of Zanesville. Shirley was born in Norwich, Ohio on January 28, 1922 to Lewis and Cleffee Moore.  She worked as a secretary for Handschy, Graham, Taylor Insurance. She was a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader for over 10 years and chaired many community charity events.

Shirley loved going on wildflower excursions where she enjoyed the natural beauty.  She also enjoyed watching and feeding birds, and managed to collect a great deal of avian-themed knick-knacks and memorabilia. She was very involved in Eastern Star and College Drive Presbyterian Church where she was an Elder, Clerk of Session, church school teacher, and church school secretary. For many years at Christmas, Shirley baked Santa-faced cookies that she passed out all over New Concord, especially to the elderly.  Her family was most precious to her, and she cherished every moment spent together.

Shirley is predeceased by her parents, her husband, Earl L. Riggle, her brothers, Dallas (Lajorie) Moore, Marion (Frances) Moore, and Glenn (Catherine) Moore, and her sisters, Esther (Robert) Stewart, Edna Moore, Mildred Moore, Mabel (Jim) Stamm, and Delma Moore.  She is survived by her son, Warren Lewis Riggle (Pam), of Asheville, NC, her daughter, Barbara Jane Riggle Behrendt (Marc), of Somerset, OH; three grandchildren, Jamie Riggle Pitts of Asheville, NC, Benjamin Riggle of London, England, and Lauren Behrendt of Orlando, FL; one great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends and family may gather at the Farus Funeral Home of New Concord on Tuesday, November 3rd from 6 to 8PM, and again on Wednesday, November 4 at 10 a.m. Services will begin at 11 a.m. with Rev. Anne Weirich officiating.  Burial will follow at Zanesville Memorial Park.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in Shirley’s memory may be made to College Drive Presbyterian Church, New Concord, OH.
