Shirley Jane Deitrick

Shirley J. Deitrick, 86 of Zanesville, passed away peacefully at her residence surrounded by her family on Thursday, July 31, 2025.

Shirley was born on March 18, 1939, in Zanesville. She is the daughter of the late Robert A. and Freda M. (Wright) Wietzel. Shirley served as a substitute teacher with Franklin Local Schools until her retirement. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, always putting her family first and ensuring they were surrounded with love and care.

Shirley enjoyed being a 4-H advisor for many years. She enjoyed going to county fairs, gardening and cooking for her family. She enjoyed spending time with her grand and great grandchildren.

Shirley is survived by her beloved husband of 65 years, Charles R. Deitrick, whom she married on July 31, 1960; her children, Bob (Gail) Deitrick, Roberta (Kevin) Funk; her 4 grandchildren, Sara Starcher, Adam Funk, Logan Deitrick, and Lincoln Deitrick; her 9 great-grandchildren Bryce, Viper, Brayden, Breanna, Rocklyn, Lewis, Keith, Emmett and Jacob; and a special friend, Jim Drake, as well as her cat Nipper.

In addition to her parents, Shirley is preceded in death by her sister Sandy Orr.

A Celebration of Shirley’s life will be held at a later date.
