Sandra Colleen (Bachelor) Watson died on July 24, 2025 after a sudden diagnosis of cancer. Sandra was born on May 16, 1934 to E. Virginia and J. Neil Bachelor. She spent most of her childhood in Duncan Falls and was a 1952 graduate of Philo High School.
After high school, Sandra was employed by the Ohio Power in downtown Zanesville, from which she would often walk for a lunch of a milkshake and cheeseburger at Tom’s Ice Cream Bowl, yet she still weighed just 98 lbs. when she married (James) Daniel Watson on September 2, 1960. They lived in their house on Third Street in Philo for most of their lives, although Sandra would never miss a chance to tell you she’d rather live in Duncan Falls, and should have moved back there when she had the chance.
Sandra left Ohio Power when daughter Jamie was born in 1964. Second daughter Lee Anne was born in 1968. Sandra returned to work in the late 1970s for Franklin Local Schools, first as a school secretary, then for the board office, as secretary/assistant to treasurer Mildred Barker, and then as treasurer herself, retiring as assistant again at the age of 77 in 2011.
Sandra was a lifelong member of the Duncan Falls United Methodist Church, and served as secretary for sixty years before she retired. If you were baptized or became a member of the church, you might have an example of her beautiful handwriting on your certificate.
She loved reading and instilled in both her daughters a love of the same. Jamie is a librarian, and Lee Anne worked for Barnes & Noble bookstore for over 16 years. To hear Sandra read a picture book aloud was a true joy. She also loved watching Jeopardy every night; doing jigsaw puzzles; feeding the many squirrels and hundreds of birds which came to her yard each day; and watching Survivor, Amazing Race, The Bachelor, and Dancing With The Stars. She hated snow and elevators and driving on the interstate.
Sandra is preceded in death by her husband, Danny Watson; parents, Virginia and Neil Bachelor; sister Carmen (John) Stackhouse; cousins Vivian and Nelda Davis; and nephew John Watson. She is also preceded by the dozens of cats and dogs who filled her house with companionship through the years. She is survived by daughters Jamie Watson (Tom Hamrick) of Baltimore, MD and Lee Anne (Jeff) Test of Columbus, OH; her beloved only grandchild Kyle (formerly Charlotte) Test, also of Columbus. Also brother-in-law Bill (Jackie) Watson; sister-in-law Nan (Jerry) Grandstaff; cousin Terry Davis; nephew Pete (Alona) Stackhouse; nieces Julie (Steve) Mullins, Jill (Bao) Lam, Jeanne Watson, and Susan (Tim) Hunter; and several grand-nieces and nephews. Jamie and Lee Anne would also like to mention Kevin and Kathy Valentine, neighbors and friends of Mom and Dad, who kept watch over them (and brought peanut butter pies!) for many, many years.
Visitations will be held from 3 to 6 pm on Friday, August 1, 2025 at the Farus Funeral Home of Duncan Falls, 383 Main Street, Duncan Falls, Ohio. Funeral services will be 11 am Saturday, August 2, 2025. Pastor Karen Osborn will officiate the service. Sandra will be laid to rest beside her husband in the Duncan Falls Cemetery.
