Ronald E. Parrill

March 18, 1932 — December 17, 2020

Zanesville

Ronald “Ron/Ronnie” Eugene Parrill, 88, of Zanesville, entered eternal rest at 6:15 am, Thursday, December 17, 2020 at The Beckett House in New Concord following a lengthy illness. He was born in March 1932, in Zanesville, the son of Virgil Parrill and Ella (Francis) Parrill.

He married the love of his life, Marlene J. Cash in Greenup, KY in August 1949. He had a 39-year career at General Electric in New Concord, OH and retired as a Dock Foreman. Ron and Marlene raised their six children on Central Avenue in Zanesville, but always welcomed any child into their home with love.

Ron’s love of sports turned into being involved in many of them throughout his lifetime. He played baseball, softball, and eventually became the Umpiring Chief of Muskingum County softball, fast pitch softball, Babe Ruth, and baseball. Ron took great pride in his children enjoying the game of baseball and softball as much as he did. His love of baseball had him following the Cincinnati Reds and Cleveland Indians. He was an avid bowler, OSU Buckeyes, and a diehard Cleveland Browns fan (even had the van to prove it). Always rooting for an Ohio team! You could often find him at the Eagles #302 or American Legion Post 29 enjoying a cold beer and watching whatever game was playing on T.V. or playing cards with his buddies. Ron cherished the times he would spend fishing with his family and friends; even at Lake Erie where there may have been more laughs than fish caught. His love for animals was apparent, cats or dogs - always showing love to strays who showed him love. Ron loved tending to his garden with his wife and grandchildren. He was a devoted grandfather that enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and making them laugh and would be silly by regularly sticking out his tongue at the little ones.

Ronald is survived by his brother, James Parrill, his brother-in-law, William “Bill” Cash, his four children: Gary (Mindy) Parrill of Merritt Island, FL, Brenda (John) Sabol of East Fultonham, OH, Linda Diniz of Trenton, OH and Gloria (Michael) Smith of Ruskin, FL; 11 grandchildren: Michelle (Steven Georgecopoulos) Pendergast, Bonita (Michael) Hartman, Natasha (Greg Kieffer) Oliver, Kyle Morgan, Charles Oliver Jr. (Elizabeth), Moneen (Brad) McBride, Tracy (Tom) Slovick, Tammy (Bobby) Davis, Casey Parrill , Gary (Suzanne) Parrill, Todd Parrill; 21 great grandchildren; Ty, Kristina, and Hunter Davis, Elizabeth Parrill, Nathaniel, Deanne, and Severiano Slovick, Zachary Parrill, Naomi Oliver, Dawson and Ashton Hartman, Gary, Cooper, and Owen McBride, Chaffin, Marrianna, Saraphina, and Allowishis Kieffer, Kira and Reese Parrill, and Javyn Masters.

In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Marlene, three children: Ronald “Gene” Eugene Parrill, Jr., Pamela Sue Parrill, Cynthia “Cindy” Ann Parrill, five siblings: sister Etta Kennedy, brothers Bobby, Charles, William, and Virgil Parrill. Also, Mark Starks of Columbus who was like another son to him.

The family would like to thank his special friends from The Beckett House: Nellie Poulton, Spero Pandelos, and Mindy.

A caring cremation has been chosen and a memorial celebration for Ron’s life and family burial will be held at a later date. The family ask that you light a candle on Christmas Eve, December 24, at 6 pm in Ron’s memory. Arrangements are being handled by Farus Funeral Home of Duncan Falls.
