Ronald (Ron) Lee Herman, 78 of Dade City Florida, formerly of Cambridge Ohio, passed away Wednesday, October 30th at the Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa Florida. He was born June 18, 1946, son of Raymond and Dorothy (Riffle) Herman. He graduated from Old Washington High School in 1964. He married his high school sweetheart, Sandi (Stoneburner) Herman on January 31, 1965.
He worked as a welder for Columbia Gas Transmissions for over 30 years. He was very active in his children’s lives by coaching his son in baseball from minor league (Pike Jets) to little league (Pike Rockets) as well as pony league and the all-star team. He was an advisor for his daughter’s 4-H club (Speed & Action) and attended all her sporting events. He was a volunteer fire fighter for Cassell Station for many years. He was a member of Guernsey Lodge #66 as well as Guernsey Chapter #211 Order of Eastern Star where he held many offices including Worthy Patron in 2008.
For the last 16 years he and Sandi spent their winters in Florida at Travelers Rest Resort where they made their permanent residence in June of this year. He enjoyed playing golf almost daily with his buddies at the TR golf course and when in Ohio, he enjoyed his golf leagues at Wildfire Golf Course. Sunday mornings were reserved for worship with his Travelers Rest Community Church friends and neighbors.
He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Sandi, son, Ron Jr and grandson Xavier, daughter, Amy (Rick) Ridenour, and granddaughter Ashley (Pierce) Applin. He also leaves behind his grandson-in-law Evan Bailey and great grandsons Easton and Cooper as well as sister-in-law Kay VanReeth, brother-in-law David (Anne) Stoneburner and a special aunt, Donna Thompson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Karen Rae, in-laws, Clarence and Betty Stoneburner, his precious granddaughter, McKenzie (Shaw) Bailey, and grandson Travis Ridenour.
A Celebration of Life will be held on November 16th at the Masonic building, 730 Wheeling Ave in Cambridge from 5:00 – 7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you plant a butterfly bush next spring in his honor.
