Robert Anthony “Tony” Janes, 83 of Duncan Falls, passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at the Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus with his loving family by his side.
Tony was born on February 16, 1940, in McConnelsville. He is the son of the late Bob W. and Eleanor (Abel) Janes. Tony began surveying when he was enlisted in the United States Army. He served proudly and was honored to be a part of the Honor Flight. After serving his country, Tony continued to diligently work as a surveyor for ODOT and in his private practice until his retirement at the age of 83. Tony attended the Brighton Presbyterian Church in Zanesville.
Tony was very active in his community, being a member of the Duncan Falls/Philo Lions Club. He was a lifetime member of the McConnelsville Legion Post #24, where he served as adjutant, and a member of the Post #1058 VFW. Tony was a member of the Buckeye Boys State. He also coached the American Legion Baseball team in McConnelsville and the Duncan Falls Softball team. He donated many hours of his time to the M&M Fire Department and he was a member of the Morgan County Athletic Boosters. He was also a member of the zoning committee for Wayne Township. Tony was always willing to help anyone in need.
Tony is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Dixie (Love) Janes, whom he married on July 30, 1966; his children, Dan (Norma) Reinstetle, Jake (Linda) Reinstetle, and Kyle (Tara Lee) Janes; his five grandchildren, Jennifer (Aaron) Rapp, Scott Reinstetle, Amanda (Ashley Goldsmith) Reinstetle, Abbe (Markus) Schemmel, and Blake (Autumn) Reinstetle; his two great-grandsons, Wesley and Garrett Schemmel; his sister, Patricia (Clarence) Parsons; as well as his two nephews, Shane and Jared Parsons.
Tony is preceded in death by his parents.
Visitations will be from 4 to 6 pm on Thursday, January 25, 2024, at the Farus Funeral Home of Duncan Falls. Funeral services for Tony will be held at 11 am on Friday, January 26, 2024, at the funeral home. Pastor Galen Finley will officiate the service. Tony will be laid to rest in McConnelsville Cemetery with full military honors, provided by the U.S. Army Color Guard and the American Legion Post #24 Honor Guard.
