Peggy Lee Hardin

September 28, 1941 — January 5, 2025

Cambridge

Peggy Lee Hardin passed away peacefully at her home on January 5, 2025.

She was born on September 28, 1941, to John and Lillian Brown. Peggy was a beloved wife to her husband, Donald R. Hardin, for 62 years, and mother to two daughters Dawn Hardin and Heather Woodard, and three grandchildren Cody, Tyson, and Emma Woodard. She was also great grandmother to Hadlee and Cooper Woodard.

Peggy was a proud graduate of THE Ohio State University where she majored in elementary education. She was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority and served as president her senior year. She continued to be actively involved with her sorority as an alumna supporting the chapter on the Denison University Campus. Peggy also volunteered her time as a Twig at the Licking Memorial Hospital and was a longtime member of the Children’s Conservation League.

After marriage Peggy and Don settled in Heath, OH where she taught second grade for Heath City Schools at Stevenson and Garfield Elementary Schools. She developed many lifelong friendships that endured the test of time with her teaching colleagues who are affectionally referred to as the “Heath Gang”. She was a die-hard sports fan, and she loved cheering on THE Ohio State Buckeyes, the Heath Bulldogs, and later the John Glenn Muskies. She rarely missed one of her husband’s basketball games, track meets, or cross-country races. She was truly his number one fan. Upon retirement she moved to New Concord, OH to be close to her grandchildren and family. She quickly became a John Glenn Muskie and was thrilled to watch her son-in-law, like her husband, win a state championship in basketball.

Peggy was very creative and talented. She enjoyed singing, painting, drawing, and gardening. She always had a knack for being able to look at things, draw them and then put her own spin on them. Friends and family looked forward to getting her hand painted cards for birthdays, holidays, and especially Christmas. She made auspicious occasions even more special with her one-of-a-kind works of art to celebrate weddings and graduations.

As an animal lover, she enjoyed farm activities. She had become quite an expert in attracting hummingbirds to her porch so she could enjoy them while in her rocking chair. Despite the fact she had allergies and hated to get dirty, she spent many hours sitting in dusty arenas, watching her daughters ride their horses and her grandkids show their goats and cattle. She was always there to support us and cheer us on.

She is survived by her husband Donald R. Hardin, daughters Dawn Hardin (David Gellar) and Heather (Greg) Woodard, grandchildren Cody (Kelly) Woodard, Tyson Woodard, and Emma Woodard and beloved pet Tinker Bell, as well as three sisters-in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, great grandchildren, and many wonderful friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Joan Holland, and nephew, John Holland.
