Nellie Lake

November 18, 1926 — April 28, 2014

New Concord --- Nellie Lake passed away peacefully in the morning hours of Monday, April 28th, at the Beckett House of New Concord, she was 87 years old. She was born in Pickens, WVA on November 18th, 1926 to Benjamin and Selena Isch. Nellie graduated from Davis & Elkins College in West Virginia and embarked on a 30 year career as an educator. She started teaching in a small one-room school house in WV and ended her career, the majority of which occurred in the East Muskingum School District, at the New Concord Elementary School. Nellie loved her garden, and flowers; particularly bright ones. She was a proud member of the Friends of the Library, the New Concord Garden Club, the Farm Bureau, and was a lifetime member of the Retired Teachers of Ohio Association; she even bowled in the Dairy League. In addition to teaching in a regular classroom, Nellie also taught both Sunday and Bible School. Her true passion was her grandchildren, and caring for her nieces. It was her greatest pleasure to take them to the Library or just spending precious moments with them. They made her heart glow. She is predeceased by her loving husband, William G. Lake, Jr., an infant son, and her brother, Frank Isch. She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Jeff (Charlene) Lake, and her daughter, Jane (Gary) Kinnison. Nellie will be deeply missed by her grandchildren, Martin (Amy) Kinnison, Megan (Tim) Collins, Christopher (Megan) Lake, Craig Lake, Cody Lake, Clayton Lake, Cameron Lake, and Caiden Lake; her great-grandchildren Madeline Kinnison, Maddox Kinnison, Heath Kinnison, and Chloe Lake, as well as her sisters, Rose Isch and Mabel Spiker; and her brothers, Arthur and Alfred Isch. She will always be remembered by her cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and family as well as the many students whom she taught during her 30 years as an educator. Teachers touch many lives and influence many minds throughout their career. Nellie's students held a special place in her heart, and she was appreciative of their open minds and willing hearts. Nellie's family would like to thank the staff of the Beckett House, who were so diligent and caring during her stay there, and made sure that both Nellie and her family were comfortable there. Friends and Family are welcome to attend calling hours on Thursday May 1st at the Farus Funeral Home of New Concord (Formerly the Mock-Miller Funeral Home) from 2 to 4PM and 6 to 8PM. A service for Nellie will take place on Friday May 2nd. Friends may attend at 10am with services starting promptly at 11AM. The Reverend Tad Sponseller will be officiating. www.farusfh.com
