Merle Taylor, 95 of Zanesville, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 9, 2024 at Brookdale Muirfield.
Merle was born February 17, 1929, in Cannelville to the late Merle Taylor Sr. and Marguerite (Prescott). Merle honorably served in the United States Army, and was a member of the Eagles, VFW, and American Legion. He later went on to work at Ohio Bell where he retired. He loved sports especially the Browns, Buckeyes, and Guardians. Merle loved to travel in his RV, and went to South Padre Island every year. He also really enjoyed carving wood, and was quite good.
He is survived by his children, Kim (Rick) Wilhelm, David (Molly) Taylor, Janet (Don) Gibbs, and Julie Taylor; his step-children Anna (Joe) Johnson, Alice (Tim) Beers, and Jason Stockdale; his eight grandchildren Jennifer (Doug) Rockel, Danielle (Jeremy) Dreslinski, Kevin (Stephanie) Wilhelm, Sean (Ashley) Taylor, Lauren (Andy) Metzler, Ian (Jenny) Taylor, Benjamin (Danielle) Taylor, and Sloan Taylor; seventeen great-grandchildren; his siblings Gary Taylor, Michael Taylor, and Darla Gatton; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Along with his parents, Merle was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children Barbara (Syfan) Taylor; his loving wife of thirty-four years Dora M. Taylor; and his siblings James, Gene, Madge, Maxine, Gladys, Irene, Ronnie, Dick, Peggy, Janny, Rosie, Shirley, and Randy.
A visitation will be held at Farus Funeral Home of Duncan Falls from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm on Saturday, August 17, 2024. A funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm with Rev. Darren Tolbert officiating. Merle will be laid to rest in St. John’s Lutheran Church Cemetery in Stovertown with full military honors provided by the George Selsam Post #1058 and the United States Army.
