Melvin Lee Cassady

May 12, 1941 — November 26, 2023

Lawton, OK

Melvin Lee Cassady, a cherished patriarch, friend, and decorated veteran, passed away peacefully of natural causes on Nov. 26, 2023, in Lawton at the age of 82. Born on May 12, 1941, in Zainesville, OH, to the late William Judson Cassady and Anna Irene (Bush) Cassady, Melvin’s life was a tapestry of dedication, warmth, and wit.

A graduate with a bachelor’s degree in business, Melvin proudly served his country in the U.S. Army until his retirement. His commendable service was a testament to his steadfast patriotism and commitment to the values he held dear. Following his military career, Melvin’s leadership skills and strategic insights were highly respected within the business community.

Melvin’s life was rich with the love of family, including his loving children Kenneth L. Cassady, Michael N. Cassady, Debbie M. Smith, Mike C. Linville and Robert H. Cullar. He was also the proud brother to Fred and Gary Cassady. His legacy further lives on through his adored grandchildren Amber N. Linville, Ian M. Vonschondorf, Zyzxca M. Reynolds, Mickie G. Cassady, Joseph M. Cassady, Anna M. Cassady, and great-grandchildren Jocelyn A. Suarez, Michael K. Cassady, and Alena J. Reynolds, Kayne Cullar, Silas Cullar and Kiyah Cullar plus a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

An intelligent, friendly, and funny man, Melvin’s presence was a source of joy and laughter to all who knew him. He had a voracious appetite for reading, which was only matched by his love for traveling and exploring museums. His inquisitive nature led him to many adventures and his stories of these travels were always a delight to his family and friends.

Melvin was a man who cherished the simple pleasures of life, such as visiting with friends and sharing a good joke. His sense of humor was infectious, and he had the unique ability to light up a room with his wit. Those who knew Melvin will remember his quick smile and the twinkle in his eye when he was about to tell a humorous tale.

As we remember Melvin, we are reminded of the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, “To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children... to leave the world a bit better... to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.” Melvin indeed succeeded, for he made countless lives breathe easier with his kindness and levity.

Melvin’s impact on the world was significant and enduring. His intelligence and humor were as much a part of him as his sense of duty and love for his family. He will be profoundly missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known him.

As we bid farewell to Melvin Lee Cassady, let us carry forward the light he brought into this world, honoring his memory by living life with the same generosity of spirit and joy he exemplified. Melvin’s story does not end here; it is carried on in the hearts and minds of his family, friends, and all those he touched throughout his remarkable journey.
