Mary L. Curtis

March 5, 1951 — June 19, 2025

New Concord

It is with profound sadness that the family of Mary Lee Curtis announces her passing on June 19, 2025 at the age of 74, after a long battle with cancer.

She was surrounded by her loved ones as she peacefully passed away at home in New Concord, Ohio.

Mary was a devoted mother, wife, and grandmother, leaving behind a legacy of love and compassion.

Mary was born on March 5, 1951 in Zanesville, Ohio. She was a kind, strong, and loving woman, and an accomplished nurse whose compassion touched countless lives.

Fiercely devoted to her family, Mary lived a life of quiet strength and unwavering generosity.

She will be remembered for her legendary cooking - especially her pies - and her talent for turning a simple meal into a celebration.

She had a remarkable ability to bring people together, creating family from friends and ensuring there was always room for one more at her table. Mary’s love of music was well known, especially her lifelong devotion to the Beatles.

She lived with a joyful spirit, one that embraced dancing, traveling, laughter, and offering the kind of hugs that made the world feel safer.

On beach vacations, Mary found peace and delight in the simplest moments. She and her beloved Clay would rise early to greet the waves - she at the shoreline, toes in the sand as the tide tickled her feet, and Clay diving into the surf under her watchful, loving eye.

Though her physical presence will be missed, Mary’s spirit will continue to echo in the warmth of a shared meal, the comfort of a favorite song, and the open arms of a home where everyone belongs.

Mary is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Clay Curtis; their children Shannon Bowdle (Lowell Bowdle) and Adam Curtis; and their grandchildren Kelsey Campbell (Deskins Campbell), Madeline Davis (Calvin Davis), Eli Sternberg, and Bryn Bowdle.

She is also survived by her sister, Luann Scott.

Mary’s life was further enriched by her beloved *bonus children*, Stephanie (Brown) Dominguez and Greg Brown, whose bond with Mary grew not from lineage, but from a lifetime of shared history — nurtured by years of laughter, loyalty, and love. She also leaves behind her *bonus grandchildren*, Frank Dominguez and Lara Dominguez, who became family not by birthright, but by the truest kind of belonging—chosen and cherished.

She was predeceased by her parents, James Franklin and Thelma Lenhart (Sharrock); and her brother-in-law Timothy Scott.

In accordance with Mary's wishes, no formal services will be held. A celebration of life will take place at a later date, with details to be announced.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice.
