Loretha June Burkhead

Loretha June Burkhead passed away while in the care of Genesis Heathcare on Monday, June 22nd; she was 90 years old.  She was born in Adamsville, Ohio to Harry and Helen Newell on October 19th, 1924.  June, as she was known to most of her friends, resided at the Primrose Retirement center in Zanesville for the last year, but had lived in Albuquerque, New Mexico for more than 20 years prior to her return to Ohio.  As a military wife she traveled and lived all over the United States and Eastern Europe.  She enjoyed crafting, Longaberger baskets, collecting things, and she always appreciated the beauty of a pansie.

Loretha is preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Bonnie Beth Atchison, her brother, Kenneth Newell, her sister, Eva Kokensprager, the father of her children, Richard Atchison, and her second husband, Junior Burkhead.

She is survived by her daughters, Deborah Buttorff and Molly Raymond, her sisters, Helen Gilcher and Margaret Robison, and her grandchildren, Christine, Gail, Douglas, Ashley and Lindsay, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and colleagues.  The family would like to express their gratitude to the Staff at Primrose Retirement and Genesis Healthcare for the kindness and attention given to Loretha while in their care.

Services will be held at the Farus Funeral Home in new Concord on Friday June, 26th, with calling hours from 10 to 11am, and service starting at 11AM.  Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery.
