Lewis E. Coleman

Lewis Earl Coleman, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 4, 2021.  He was born in Cambridge, Ohio on May 3, 1934, son of the late James Earl Coleman and Pearl Edith (Reeves) Coleman.

He was a longtime member of the International Union of Operating Engineers serving as a crane operator on the construction team building many of the bridges in Ohio’s interstate highway system as they were first constructed in the 1960’s.  He later worked for over 20 years at the General Electric Parts Distribution Center in New Concord, from which he retired in 1994.

Loving husband of Esther Ellouise Coleman for 65 years.  Father of Shawna (Steve) Bodner, LaVawn Coleman and Doug Coleman; loving grandfather of Cole Lewis and Caylee (Nick) Gonzalez.  Lewis was predeceased by his brother, Vaughn “Pete” E. (Ruth) Coleman.

He was affectionately known to some as “Pookie,” and “Lewie” to most others.  His most treasured memories were of his time spent working around the farm in New Concord and riding motorcycles around Ohio with friends, stopping at the many interesting sights to be seen along the way.  A dedicated husband, caring father, beloved grandfather, and dear friend to many … He will be greatly missed.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Genesis Hospice Care, 713 Forest Avenue, Zanesville, Ohio 43701.

Visitation will be Thursday, August 19th beginning at 2:00 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 3:30 p.m., at Farus Funeral Home, New Concord, with Pastor Keith Taylor officiating.  Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, New Concord.
