Lester Armstrong Jr.

Lester Armstrong Jr. passed away peacefully on July 10, 2024, in his home with loving family by his side. Born April 25, 1934, in Zanesville, Ohio the 1st born son to the late Lester Sr. and Leola (Clark) Armstrong. Lester started his career in high school as an apprentice with Owens Corning Brockway Glass where he continued to work as the Mold Shop Supervisor until he retired in 1992. In the later years of his career, he would travel to other locations to train employees and took pride in his hard work, dedication and “lead by example” mentality he maintained as a Supervisor. Lester had a contagious smile, was very passionate about his hobbies and loved to tell a good story. He enjoyed his time flying planes, as a Dive Team member, and the work he did with the locks/dams on the Muskingum County River.  He was a proud Mason, an avid pool player at the Moose Lodge, enjoyed spending time with friends at the Elks and would never turn down a good game of racquetball. Lester was a family man and took pride in his five sons and two daughters. He was very proud of the time spent together over the years camping and traveling, hunting and fishing, boating on the river and trail riding. On August 18, 1990, Lester Armstrong Jr. married his best friend Denise (Swingle) Armstrong. They had a special bond that often came with playful competition especially when it came to talking about who could kill the biggest buck or turkey each season, and who was better at taking care of the yard work. Family often laughs about the fact that Lester’s famous line was, “damn it Denise”. They were particularly fond of spending time with friends in their four-wheeling club, jumping on the motorcycle for a long ride, or loading up the RV and traveling the United States. She was his partner in life and until his last words, Lester faithfully wanted Denise by his side. In the last few weeks of life Lester said often that he had a great 90 years on this earth, and he was ready to go be with his three sons, Lester Allen Armstrong: Greg Armstrong and Mark Armstrong. He is also proceeded in death by his parents, Lester Armstrong Sr. and Leola (Clark) Armstrong and his two brothers Delmar and Vernon Armstrong. He is survived by his children Jeff (Lisa) Amstrong of Zanesville; Mike (Debbie) Armstrong of Mt. Perry; Leitsa (Nickey Leeth) Armstrong-Lang of Reynoldsburg; Nicole (CJ) Johnson of Blue Rock and daughter in law Karen Armstrong of Zanesville. His grandchildren: David (Rhonda) Armstrong; Darcie (Keith) McKenzie; Shane Armstrong; Adam Armstrong; Ryan (ChrisAnn) Armstrong; Josh Armstrong; Teisha (Matt) Lewellen; Sasha (Jonathan) Pickrell; Nicole (Michael) Armstrong; Scott (Kari) Armstrong; Luke (Jennifer) Armstrong; Keara Winegardner; Ashley (Peter) Nassoiy; Allie Armstrong; Kayla Watts; Andrea (Kevin) Angelo; Chelsey (Rothman) Driver, 32 great grandchildren with one more on the way, several nephews and nieces. Lester cared tremendously about the people in his life and leaves behind special friends Tim (Carolyn) Makin, Stanley (Millie) Bennett; Dave (Barb) Bishop; Mike Lambert: Pete King; Linda (Wayne) Knowlden; Pat and Ed Walsh; Dana and Bev Johnson and Family;  and the Moose Lodge Pool Players.

The Farus Funeral Home of Duncan Falls will be handling the cremation. No calling hours or funeral services will be held per Lesters wishes. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in his name to Eastside Community Ministries or The Animal Shelter.
