Larry E. Freeman, 70, of Chambersburg, passed away Thursday, December 22, 2016 at his home. Born April 22, 1946 in Zanesville, OH, he was the son of Sylvia M. (West) Freeman Barker of Ohio and the late Bernard W. Freeman. He was the husband of Diane M. (Sollenberger) Freeman whom he married May 5, 2012.

Upon his high school graduation, Larry entered the United States Navy where he proudly served as Chief Petty Officer for more than 26 years. He was employed at the Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg where he was a supervisor for the past 5 years.

Larry’s memberships include Detrich-Brechbill American Legion Post #612, St. Thomas, Pa where he served as Service Officer, The Disabled American Veterans Chapter #78, Chambersburg where he was a Past Commander and an officer in District 5 of Pennsylvania, the VFW Post 6386, Ingleside, TX and the VFW Post 1058, Zanesvill, OH.

Larry was an Ohio State Buckeye Fan, an avid bowler who enjoyed restoring old cars and loved spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife, Larry is survived by three sons, Richard Freeman, Larry Freeman and Gary Freeman, a stepdaughter, Dawn Yaggi, five brothers, James Barker, Danny Barker, Bernard Freeman, Cecil Freeman and Keith Freeman, three sisters, Judy Pyle, Chris Williams and Sheila Russell, and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 21, 2017 at the Westside Brethren in Christ Church, Chambersburg. The Rev. Dr. David W. Kent will officiate. Burial will be 12:30PM, Monday, January 23, 2017 in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA where Military Honors shall be accorded.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society 452 East King St., Chambersburg, Pa 17201, the American Diabetes Association, 2451 Crystal Dr. Suite 900 Arlington, VA 22202 or to the Disabled American Veterans 2705 Lincoln Way West, Chambersburg, PA 17202.
