Kay Yvonne Hiett, 84, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2024, at the Atria Senior Living Center in Palm Springs, California.
Kay was born on August 20, 1940, in Zanesville, Ohio, to Dale and Ruth Potts. She married the love of her life, Howard “Hardy” Hiett, on November 16, 1957. Their marriage was a true testament to love and devotion, and Kay remained deeply in love with Hardy throughout her life. Together, they raised two adoring sons, Chris and Michael, who brought immense joy to her life and often sent her and Hardy on cruises and trips to casinos across the country.
Tragedy struck in 2008 with the unexpected passing of her son Chris, followed by Hardy’s death in 2009. Afterward, Michael moved Kay to Grove City, Ohio, where he lived. In 2016, the pair embarked on a new chapter, relocating to Palm Springs, California. Kay was captivated by the beauty of her new home, often marveling, “This is what movie stars see every day.”
Kay and Michael shared countless adventures in California. She loved visiting local casinos, basking in the warm camaraderie of Michael’s friends, and doting on her beloved pets, Casper and Betty. Despite Michael’s diagnosis of liver cancer in 2019, he remained steadfast in his care and love for his mother. After his passing on March 29, 2024, Kay moved to Atria Senior Living Center, where she was surrounded by friends and compassionate caregivers.
Even as dementia took hold, Kay continued to shine. She delighted in playing cards, participating in crafts, dressing impeccably for meals, and savoring her weekly Krispy Kreme donuts. Her resilience and positivity were truly remarkable, and her unwavering kindness left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
Kay is remembered as a beacon of love and warmth, someone who rarely had a negative thought and touched the lives of everyone she encountered. Her friends Charles Aeh, Steve Goldbach, Brad Yates, and Dan Amato ensured she was never without companionship in her final months.
Kay will be cremated and reunited with her husband and sons at Greenwood Cemetery in Zanesville, Ohio.
Her life was a gift, and her memory will remain a treasure to all who were fortunate enough to know her.
The Farus Funeral Home of Duncan Falls is honored to care for the Hiett family.
