Obituary

Joseph B. Long, 89 of Chandlersville, Ohio, passed away on April 24, 2026, at the Highland Oaks with his faithful daughters by his side. He was born in Zanesville, Ohio, on March 31, 1937, to the late Frank and Francis (Musselman) Long. Joseph was a hard worker and dedicated thirty-three years of his life to working at Shelly and Sands as a superintendent before retiring in 2002. He was also involved in his community, serving as past president of the Full Gospel Businessmen.

In his younger days, he enjoyed coon-hunting and had several trophy dogs. He also enjoyed deer hunting and had three trophy deer mounts. Joseph loved the Lord and wasn’t afraid to shout it. He cherished his family, and he showed his love in various ways. Aside from spending time with his loved ones, he enjoyed golfing (even scoring a few Hole-in-Ones), and taking his karaoke machine to preach at local nursing homes.

Joseph is survived by his daughters, Rose Mary (Jim Rhodes) Wilson, Jena Archer, Kathy (Marc) Makin, and Jackie Hannan; his grandchildren, Sherry (Rodney) Gilkerson, Michael Wilson, Danielle Cavener, Billi StClair, Ray (Anna) StClair, Janelle (Andrew) Gibson,Kyle (Heather) Makin, Alicia (Salvatore) Bria, Kris (Stephanie) Hannan, Korey Hannan, Mandy (Zach Rojas) Hannan, and Diamond (Jaylen Riley) Johnson; his twenty-eight great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and one on the way; his sister, Imelda Scurlock; his brothers, Jack (Pam) Long and Jim (Patty) Long; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends.

In addition to his parents, Joseph is preceded in death by his beloved wife of fifty-six years, Ruth (Rushing) Long, who passed away in December of 2013; his three infant children; his great grandson, Skyler Gilkerson; his great-great grandson, Alexander Lindard; as well as his siblings, Rita, Dorothea, Theresa, Margaret, Lorna, William, and Henry.

The family would like to extend a special thank-you and appreciation to his Shriver’s Green team, Pastor Joe, Gracie, Tracy, and Darcie, as well as his faithful and loving STNAs Lisa and Crystal, his Nurse Jen that he loved dearly, and Tiffany, who made his journey so much easier.

In keeping with Joseph’s wishes, a caring cremation will take place. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

The Farus Funeral Home of Duncan Falls is caring for the Long family.
