John “Jack” R. Lynch, Jr. (86) of New Concord, Ohio passed away peacefully, with his family at his side, on November 5th, 2014 following a five month illness. He was born October 19th, 1928 in Lima Ohio; one of two children to John R. Lynch, Sr. and Helen Dunn Lynch. John lived many places during his lifetime, but chose to settle in New Concord after his retirement, to be nearer to his family.
He is preceded in Death by his parents, John and Helen Lynch, his daughter, Kathryn Diane Rice, and his brother, Ted Charles Lynch, as well as his sister-in-law, Betty Ann Lynch.
John served his country during World War Two as a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne and also served in the Air Force Reserve. He remained a history buff, and loved stories and movies about the war. John’s impressive work history includes 38 years with Exxon Mobile as a National Marketing Executive, during which time he only missed one day of work due to illness.
John was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Cambridge, Ohio where he sang in the choir and attended the First Door on the Left Sunday Class, making friends there who became very near and dear to him. Those who knew John knew he had a tremendous love of cars, and even at the end of his life could name every car he ever owned. His love of cars took him to many car shows. He was a member of the Cambridge car club, as well as the proud owner of various makes and models of cars. The Cadillacs were his favorites.
Equal to his love of cars was his love of music, especially jazz and big band! A favorite memory of all the women in his family was dancing with John especially to “In the Mood” by Glenn Miller. He also loved to travel and did so, both domestically and abroad.
He is survived by his three sons, John (Amy) Lynch of Galax, Virginia, David (Kelly) Lynch of Cambridge, Ohio, and Stephen (Terri) Lynch of Clearwater, Florida. He also leaves to cherish his memory eight grandchildren; Amy (Todd) Breininger of Germanville, PA, Ryan (Lena) Lynch of Canal Winchester, Ohio, Jesse (Kerry) Shugart of Jacksonville, Florida, Stephanie and Alyson Lynch of Chico, California, Weston Lynch of Somerset, PA, and Charles, Lucy, and Katy Lynch of Galax, Virginia; as well as five great-grandchildren who affectionately referred to him as Grandpa Jack; Katelyn and Jenna Breininger, Connor Shugart, and Miri and Tess Lynch. Also left to mourn his passing is Paula Mazur, his companion, The Robert & Kathryn Kelly Family, his church family, and many neighbors and friends.
A service of Celebration of John’s illustrious life will be held on Saturday, November 8th, 2014 with friends and family invited to share stories, music, and pictures beginning at 9:45am at the First United Methodist Church of Cambridge, 7th and Wheeling Ave. Services will start promptly at 10:30am. Burial will be privately at the Old Washington Cemetery.
