John “Jay” James, 60, of Portland, Maine, and formerly of Zanesville, Ohio, passed away on Friday, November 28, 2025, at the Maine Medical Center.
Jay was born in Zanesville on October 18, 1965, the son of the late Glenn and Gloria James. He loved spending time outdoors, especially on the lake fishing. He enjoyed listening to music, dancing, and working with his hands. Jay was employed as a concrete pourer and bridge builder for Reed and Reed, where he took great pride in his work.
He is survived by his son, Jeffrey (Madison) James; his sisters, Jeanie (Mark) Everett, Gloria (Tim) Dalessandri, and Lora (Mike) Tilton-Wisecarver; and his brothers, Danny (Tina) James and Doug (Bev) James; Great friends, Rita; Steven, and Walter and many other too numerous to list.
Jay is preceded in death by his sister, Pam McDole; his brothers, Russ James and Keith James; and his brothers-in-law, Keith Tilton and Gary McDole.
In keeping with his wishes, a caring cremation will take place. A celebration of his life will be held in Zanesville this spring, with the date, time, and location to be announced at a later date.
