Jeffrey Earl Showers

Jeffery Earl Showers, age 71, of Stovertown passed away on December 18, 2022 under the compassionate care of Genesis Hospice after a three year battle with cancer.  Jeff was born on April 13, 1951 to Earl Showers and Jean Swingle in Athens, Ohio. Jeff graduated from Philo High School in 1969. He went on to study Mechanical Engineering at Muskingum Area Technical College (MATC). After graduating, he began work at Resinoid Engineering where he retired as the Maintenance Supervisor in 2014 after 42 years of dedicated service.

He was married to Karen Thomas, the love of his life, for 49 and 1/2 years.  Jeff and Karen have two children, Sara (Rich) Linhart and Amy Mann. He was blessed with four grandchildren, Reese and Leland Mann and RJ and Braden Linhart whom he adored.

He was a faithful Christian and attended Stovertown Lutheran Church and St. John’s Lutheran Church in Zanesville throughout his life. Jeff spent a considerable amount of time helping others and there was nothing he couldn’t fix.  He was a quiet man who could always be counted on to lend a hand when others needed help. He loved woodworking, camping with his family, and attending his grandchildren’s events.

Jeff was predeceased by his father, Earl Showers, mother, Jean Swingle, step-father, Bennett Swingle, sister, Elizabeth and brother-in-law, John Fabian. He is survived by his wife, Karen, whom he married July 22, 1973; daughters, Sara (Rich) Linhart, Amy Mann, grandchildren, Reese and Leland Mann, RJ and Braden Linhart, siblings, Leslie (Gary) Williams, Susan Showers, Vince (Linda) Showers, Ruth Fabian, David (Sue) Swingle, Al (Nancy) Swingle, Joanne (Paul) Miller, Jim (Gail) Swingle, and John (Teri) Swingle, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Stovertown Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, Genesis Hospice Care or the Pan Foundation.  The Pan Foundation provides grants to individuals battling cancer to assist with the cost of cancer medication.

Visitations will be 4 to 8 pm on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at the Farus Funeral Home, 383 Main Street, Duncan Falls, Ohio.  Visitations will also be held 10 to 11 am on Thursday, December 22, 2022 at the Stovertown Lutheran Church, 6575 Center Road, Philo, Ohio.  Funeral services will be held at 11 am.  Jeff’s brother, Pastor Al Swingle, will officiate the service.  Jeff will be laid to rest in the Stovertown Lutheran Church Cemetery.
