Jeffrey D.
Wheeler Sr.
Dec 29, 1958 — Oct 2, 2026
Zanesville
Jeffrey D. Wheeler, Sr., 67, of Zanesville, Ohio, passed away on Friday, October 2, 2026, surrounded by his loving children and grandchildren at Hospice of Central Ohio at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, following a hard-fought battle with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.
Jeff was born on December 29, 1958, to the late David E. Wheeler and Barbara E. (Davis) Wheeler Holbert. On October 30, 1976, he married the love of his life, Debra (Sigrist) Wheeler, with whom he shared 47 years of marriage before her passing on February 23, 2024.
Jeff’s greatest joy in life was his family. He loved his wife, children, and grandchildren more than anything, and some of his happiest moments were spent at family get-togethers, watching his children and grandchildren play sports, and cheering them on at their games. He was their biggest supporter, their biggest fan, and someone they could always count on. His family was his whole world, and there was nothing he wouldn’t do for the people he loved.
In his free time, Jeff enjoyed going to the dog races and spending time at the casino. He also loved telling jokes and making people laugh. He had a way of bringing laughter into a room and making moments a little brighter for the people around him. These simple pleasures, along with the time he spent with his family, were some of the things that made life special to him.
Though Jeff endured a difficult battle with ALS, he faced many challenges surrounded by the love of his family. His strength, his love for his family, and the impact he made on those around him will never be forgotten. While his family takes comfort in knowing he is no longer suffering, his absence leaves a heartbreak that words cannot fully express. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
Jeff is survived by his children, Jadie (Kim) Wheeler, Julie (Chad) Joseph, and Jeff “J.J.” Wheeler, Jr.; his beloved grandchildren, Chloe Joseph, Bailey (Wyatt) Abella, Sydney Joseph, Gracie Joseph, Txanthon Wheeler, and Palmer Wheeler; and a precious great-granddaughter who is on the way. He is also survived by his brothers, Greg Wheeler and George (Robin) Wheeler; and his sister, Lisa Fouch.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Debra Wheeler; his parents, David Wheeler and Barbara Wheeler Holbert; his stepfather, Phillip Holbert; his sister, Cindy McKee; and his in-laws, Vince and Rita Sigrist.
Though Jeff is no longer here, the love he gave, the memories he created, and the lives he touched will live on forever. He will be loved, missed, and remembered always.
In accordance with Jeff’s wishes, no services will be held. Farus Funeral Home of Duncan Falls is caring for Jeff’s cremation arrangements.
