James E. Linscott

Zanesville

James Earl Linscott, age 79, went to be with the Lord on March 3, 2023.  He was the son of Donald William and Janette Elizabeth Metcalf Linscott in Zanesville, Ohio on May 13,1943. He was a quiet man who enjoyed woodworking, gardening especially his tomatoes and raspberries, and watching Mash and John Wayne movies. Jim grew up as a member of Salt Creek Baptist Church and was a Baptist by faith.  He had given his heart to the Lord in January.   Jim graduated from Philo High School in 1961.  He played trumpet in the band.  Jim was a Vietnam veteran serving in the US Army from September 66 to September 68.  He ran a tire shop in Vietnam and was a light truck driver.  He traveled while in Vietnam including a visit to Saigon.  When he returned home he was stationed at Fort Knox and was a vehicle driver for the officers.  He was employed as the Head Receiving Clerk at National Plumbing and Pottery AKA Nationaline from 1965 until their closure in the mid 90’s.  He then was employed by the Fieldhouse as a Janitor till he retired in 2000.  He is a life member of the VFW, a member of the American Legion and Disabled American Veterans.  In retirement he enjoyed playing ‘Words With Friends’ and played until the end.

Jim was survived by his wife, Ada Irene “Renee” Leedham Linscott who he married on June 28, 1974 in Wheeling WV.  They renewed their vows on February 12, 2023. He leaves four sons, Clinton of Zanesville, Eric (Wendy Nesser) of Columbus, Donald (Crystal Newland) of Zanesville, and Nathan (Bobbi Jo Whittle) of Chandlersville. Surviving are five grandchildren, Wesley (Kat Boyd) Wickham of Byesville, Jarren (Alex Gregg) Linscott of Chandlersville, Vincent Kinder of Philo, Nicolai Linscott and Aiden Linscott of Columbus, and a granddaughter, Jaden Linscott of Zanesville.  He is also survived by his sister, Nancy Rose Linscott Gatewood, of Chandlersville, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Alvin (Karen Miley) Leedham, Jr. of Columbus, and Frank Hearrell of Williston, ND, sister-in laws, Grace “Jean” (Chris Omen) Norris of Cambridge, Cathy (Larry) Dorsey of Medford, Oregon, and many nieces and nephews including Crystal Gatewood Fuller and Victoria (Dale) Gatewood Myers, great and great-great nieces and nephews.  He has seven bonus grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and brother-in-law, Marion Gatewood.

Visitations will be 5 to 7 pm Monday, March 6, 2023 at the Farus Funeral Home of Duncan Falls.  Funeral Services will be held 11 am on Tuesday.  Pastor Joe Rowland will officiate the service.  Jim will be laid to rest in the Duncan Falls Cemetery with full Military Honors provided by The George Selsam VFW Post 1058 and the U.S. Army Color Guard.
