Obituary

James R. Bromley, 71, of Blue Rock, Ohio, passed away on August 21, 2026, surrounded by his family at home after a courageous battle with chronic lung disease. He was born on September 9, 1954, in Zanesville, Ohio, to James R. Bromley Sr. and Evelyn (Phillips) Martin. On February 24, 1979, he married Sharon Coen in Philo, Ohio and they shared 47 years together weathering the ups, downs, adventures, and challenges of life side by side.

Jim was a man defined by hard work and a steadfast love for his family. No matter what life put in front of him he was driven to overcome any obstacles he encountered. He was determined to give his family a life built on hard work, faith in Christ, and love.

Jim began his career in the family oil business, Bromley Drilling, before venturing out on his own with JR’s Power Tongs. He later worked as an independent truck driver and farmer, industriously finding ways to move forward and provide for those he loved. In his later years, he turned his talents toward buying and renovating investment properties. He took pride in transforming neglected houses into homes.

Jim handed down his love of the water by taking his family on many unforgettable lake vacations. He often spent as much time working on his boat as he did driving it, and he especially enjoyed turning his hat around backwards and giving wicked tube rides. He also loved farming with his son and grandsons and passing on his knowledge to the next generation.

Throughout his life, Jim was diligent, independent, and resourceful—a man who worked hard, solved problems, and quietly demonstrated his love for his family by being a steadfast provider.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sharon Bromley of Blue Rock, children; Jason (Sara) Bromley of Blue Rock, Jessica (Nicolo) Fioritto of Wooster, Jamie (Dustin) Schaadt of Van Wert, from his previous marriage, Chris (Molly) Lemley of Nashport, grandchildren; Gracie Schaadt, Cole Bromley, Mackenzie Bromley, Andrie Schaadt, Isabella Fioritto, Lane Schaadt, Jase Bromley, Eva Fioritto, Clayton Bromley, Sofia Fioritto, Luke Bromley, Allie Bromley, Casey Lemley, Cade Lemley; siblings, Tammy (Mike) Gossett of South Zanesville, William Bromley of Chillicothe, and Kimberly Bromley of Fultonham.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son Chad Lemley; siblings; Glenn Baker, Gene Baker, and John Baker; and aunt Anne and uncle Bill Cooper.

Visitation will be held Friday, August 28, 2026, from 4:00 p.m.to 7:00 p.m. at Farus Funeral Home, 383 Main St., Duncan Falls. Additional visitation will be on Saturday, August 29, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with funeral services beginning at 11:00 a.m. Pastor John Schouten will officiate. Burial will follow at Union Hill Cemetery. There will be a meal and gathering at the farm following the burial at 10460 Union Hill Rd., Blue Rock.
