Helen May Burton Coleman passed away on January 1st, 2016; she was born on May 23, 1924, at home, in Marietta, Ohio to her parents, Hammond Burton (age 48) and Caroline Lantz Burton (age 42). She was the youngest of six children. Helen and first husband, Ray Keith married in 1948 and had twin daughters, Jane and Janet in 1949. The marriage ended twelve years later. In the fall of 1969, Helen married Kenneth S. Coleman. They had a happy, loving marriage for 26 years, until Ken’s passing on December 1, 1995.
Ken and Helen lived in Marietta and later Modesto California, where they were both active in community theatre. Helen later moved to Ranchero Village in Largo, Florida. She spent the final 6 years of her life in Zanesville, Ohio, near her family. Helen was an active member in The Order of Eastern Star, serving as Worthy Matron, Deputy Grand Matron and other capacities. Recently, she was honored to be appointed as Grand Representative of Australia in Ohio. Helen loved and served God, and represented Christian teachings in her daily life. She never met a stranger, and will always be remembered as the “Sunshine Lady” at Ranchero Village. Friends and family enjoyed her sense of humor and her willingness to devote her time, energy and money to her church, Eastern Star, and other activities. Her positive philosophy of life was reflected on her apartment wall: “Faith, Family, Friends”.
Helen is preceded in death by her beloved husband Kenneth Coleman, her parents, siblings Gerald (Lee) Burton, Guy Burton, Mary Justice, Mabel Parkhill, Daniel Burton and son-in-law Robert Lindsey. She is survived by her daughters, Jane (Jim) Evans and Janet Lindsey; grandchildren William Evans, David Lindsey, Danielle Shannon, and Shannon Gooden; 12 great-grandchildren, and many other beloved family members and close friends.
Friends and family may attend a Calling Hour at 1PM at the Farus Funeral Home of New Concord on Saturday, January 30th; Eastern Star services will begin at 1:45, and services will follow at 2PM. Private interment will be at Eastlawn Cemetery, Marietta Ohio at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given in her name to North Terrace, Church of Christ, Zanesville Ohio or the charity of your choice.
