Hattie Mae Gibson, 95, of Philo, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 9, 2024 at Genesis Hospital in Zanesville.

Hattie was born on February 12, 1928 in Phillipi, WV.  She is the daughter of the late Alston and Alberta (Kennedy) Newman.

Hattie was a member of the Women of Worth at the Union Tabernacle Church on Hartford Street in Zanesville.  She was a member of the Muskingum County Country Music Hall of Fame, where her husband enjoyed playing steel guitar.  She was an avid gardener and canned her vegetables from her own garden even this past summer.  She enjoyed taking care of her flowers and the birds.  As the oldest of 17 children, she hosted her eight living siblings for lunch at her home; but most especially she loved being “Granny”.

Hattie is survived by her five children, Linda (Ron) Smith, Dale Mae Gibson, Carl (Diane) Gibson, Tina (Paul) Pride, and Pennie Dewart; grandchildren, Connie (Pat) Murphy, Melissa Kaye (Nick) Atkinson, Ashley Cain, Tasci Gibson, Josci Harter, Amanda Riehl, Kyle Gibson, Sarah (Timmy) Tysinger, Christina (Mike) Foster, Michaela (Wes) Creed, Jacob Dewart, Tyler Dewart; 24 great grandchildren and one on the way; and her eight siblings, Donald Newman, Robert Newman, Gary Newman, Goldie Newman, Thomas (Sharon) Newman, Naomi Mayle, Delores Butler, and Nancy Hovatter; and many lifelong friends including special friends, Steve and Libby Payton.

In addition to her parents, Hattie is preceded in death by her husband, Dayle E. Gibson, whom she married April 21, 1946 and who passed away January 5, 2000; two sons-in-law, Ken Dewart and Kevin Harter; and her eight siblings, Meredith, Alfred, Harley, Alston Jr., Norman, Fred, Eunice Dalton, and Macel Croston.

Visitations will be 4 to 7 pm on Friday, January 12, 2024 at the Farus Funeral Home, 383 Main Street, Duncan Falls and also from 12 to 1 pm on Saturday.  Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Saturday.  Pastor Marc Caton will officiate the service.  She will be laid to rest beside her husband in Duncan Falls Cemetery.
