April 26, 1921 — July 3, 2018

Geraldine M. (Gerry) Wilson, 97, passed away peacefully at the Beckett House in New Concord on July 3rd, 2018.  Gerry was born in New Concord on April 26, 1921.  She is the daughter of the late James Earl and Ethel (Watson) Johnson.  After graduating from High School in 1939, Gerry attended Muskingum College.  At the outbreak of World War II she left college to accept teaching positions in Plainfield and Medina Ohio. She married her husband of 61 years, Dick, on July 1, 1943 while he was on leave from service with the Army Air Corp/ 15th Air Force in Italy.   After returning to New Concord she taught elementary school in Westland Township and in the East Muskingum School District for more than 30 years.   Along with her passion for teaching, Gerry had a love of music.  She sang in numerous choral groups and played the violin at Muskingum.  She was loyal member of the choir at the College Drive Presbyterian Church and a charter member of the New Concord Mothers Club.

Gerry is survived by her sons James R. (Susan) Wilson and Steven E. (Mary) Wilson; her sister Dorothy Johnson Shearer; her grandchildren Scott Z. Wilson, Heather V. Wilson, and Brittany A. Wilson; as well as several nieces and nephews.   In addition to her parents, Gerry is preceded in death by her husband C. Richard Wilson, and her brother, Robert M. Johnson.

The family would like to thank the staff of Primrose Assisted Living in Zanesville, the Beckett House, and the many friends and neighbors who provided countless acts of friendship, care, and kindness.

Friends and family are welcome to attend calling hours at the College Drive Presbyterian Church on Saturday, July 7th from 9AM to 10AM. Services will begin at 10AM, with Reverend Anne Weirich officiating services, with burial following at the New Concord Cemetery.   In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the College Drive Presbyterian Church.
