Gary J. Starkey

Gary J. Starkey, 60 of McConnelsville, passed away at 3:45 am Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at Genesis Hospital. Gary was born June 17, 1954 in Zanesville the son of Kenneth & Freda (Woodruff) Starkey of South Zanesville. He retired after 30 years working as a maintenance supervisor for the Zanesville city waste water treatment plant. Whether the sun was beaming or the stars shining bright, if it was raining, snowing or a clear beautiful night Gary was sitting by the fire pit with country music echoing the night. When not on the river bank he loved fishing with his son, working in his vegetable garden, watching football, bowling and spending time with his granddaughters. In addition to his parents, Gary is survived by his son Craig (Amy) Starkey of Louisville, OH; his sister Elaine (Jan) Crawmer of Zanesville; his two granddaughters Aerien and Brianna, his companion of 10 years Violet Sharrer his faithful dog Moto and his best friend and neighbor Mike. Gary is preceded in death by his guardian angel, Grandma Dicia Starkey and Grandma & Grandpa Woodruff. In keeping with his wishes, Gary's body will be cremated and no services will be observed.
