Elsie Ann Derry

Elsie A. Derry, 85 of New Concord, went to be with the Lord on August 23, 2021, while at Genesis Hospital.

Elsie was born in Zanesville on September 13, 1935. She is the daughter of the late Carl and Helen (Fred Carter) Hansel. Elsie worked for the Ohio Division of Forestry as a fire lookout, for Dr. Slater’s office as a receptionist, and for the Guernsey-Muskingum Electric. She retired from Muskingum Contractors as a secretary. Elsie was a member of the St. Nicholas Catholic Church, and she was a woman of strong faith and enjoyed going to church. Elsie was also a member of the Ladies of Isabella, the Muskingum County Grange and the Otsego Garden Club. She could always be found tending to her flowers and vegetables in her garden, or cheering for her Ohio State Buckeyes.

Elsie is survived by her children, Richard (Melanie) Derry, Debbie (Bob) Cannaday, and Doug (Sharon) Derry; her eight grandchildren, her twenty-one great-grandchildren; her great-great-granddaughter, and her half-sister, Jan (Jim) Lucas.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made in Elsie’s name to St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 925 E. Main Street, Zanesville, OH, 43701, or to Genesis Hospice, 751 Forrest Ave, Zanesville, OH, 43701.

Private services will be held with Pastor Keith Taylor officiating. Elsie will be laid to rest next to her parents in Mt. Olive Cemetery. The Farus Funeral Home of New Concord is caring for the Derry Family.
