Dorothy Louise Downing Morrow went home to be with her Lord on April 15, 2026. Born July 12, 1929, to Howard and Lucy Bailey Downing, she grew up in Blue Rock, Ohio, attended Meigs Schoolhouse, and graduated from Zanesville High School and the Meredith School of Business. She married the love of her life, Wilbur Morrow, on June 1, 1952, and together they built a life rooted in hard work, faith, and mutual support.
Dorothy’s independent spirit and strong work ethic carried her from her teens at the soda fountain on Maple Avenue to roles at Mosaic Tile Company and Peabody Coal Company, culminating as Inventory Manager with Schrader Bellows. For twelve years, she and Wilbur proudly owned a Gas Station and Grocery in Bloomfield, a testament to their teamwork and dedication.
Dorothy’s faith guided her through life. A devoted member of Bloomfield United Presbyterian Church for more than seventy years, she served as a deacon and stayed connected to her faith throughout her life. Her talents were many—sewing, ceramics, gardening, euchre, and word games—along with a love of reading and working the election polls. In retirement, she and Wilbur cherished their RV travels, enjoying the adventures and time together until his passing in 1997.
Among all the things that made her happy, family was at the center. In addition to her parents and her husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved sisters: Hazel Haser, Irene Jenkins, Freda Meadows, and Bonnie Angelo, as well as her brother, Howard Downing, Jr. In addition, in-laws Ellis Morrow, Ronnie Haser, Bob Catlett, Ron Meadows, Sharon Downing, Anne Downing, Mary Ann Morrow, and Jean Patterson joined the Lord ahead of her.
Dorothy leaves behind a family who is grateful to have had her presence on Earth for 96 years, including children: Bob (Ramona) Morrow, Dale (Lois Ann) Morrow, and Jan (Chuck) Shipley. She also leaves grandchildren: Randy (Crystal Beach) Morrow, Ryan (Nair) Morrow, Renee (Brian) Coll, Alan (Holly) Shipley, and Keith (Tiffany) Shipley. Great-grandchildren Tyler (Alex) Coll, Heather (Alex) Cunningham, Sean Morrow, Katlyn Beach, Logan (Karsan Smith) Morrow, Kyla Morrow, Jillian Morrow, Maddie Morrow, Carter Coll, Clare Coll, Trinity Shipley, and Levi Shipley will cherish her memory. Children instantly brought a smile to her face. Her great-great-grandchildren left behind are Finley and Sawyer Krugh, Stevie and Jett Cunningham, and Athena and Khaleesi Morrow. She was greatly anticipating the arrival of the next addition to the family, baby Hazel June. Dorothy also leaves her brother Jim (Bev) Downing, and in-laws Marge (Bob) Johnson, John Patterson, Felix Angelo, and Willis Jenkins.
Viewing will be held at Farus Funeral Home in New Concord, Ohio, on Friday, April 17, from 4 PM – 7 PM, and Saturday at 11 AM, with the service beginning at noon, with her nephew, Pastor Roger Morrow, officiating. Burial at Bloomfield Cemetery will follow.
