Donald McCall Castor passed away on Saturday, October 8th while in the care of the Beckett House; he was 94 years old.  He was born in Otsego, Ohio on April 2nd, 1922 to Walter L. and Pansy (McCall) Castor.  He graduated Otsego High School, and attended Muskingum University for a year before enlisting in the Air Corps.  During his time in the military he flew A-20’s and A-26’s, strafe bombers, and was stationed in Okinawa.   When he returned in 1946 he went into business with his father at the Castor Hardware Store in New Concord; remaining in New Concord the rest of his life, and eventually became the owner and operator of the Zanesville Pottery.  He was a member of the College Drive Presbyterian Church, where he was an Elder and Trustee.  He was a devoted husband and father, and cherished his grandchildren.  His family never had need of a repairman, as he could fix anything, and loved doing maintenance around the house and property.  He was a member of the Lions club, and helped start the Steam and Gas club.

He is predeceased by his parents, his brother, Edwin Bryce Castor, and his brother-in-law, Samuel M. Laing.  He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 67 years, Jane (Laing) Castor, his son, Kim Laing (Carolyn) Castor, his daughter, Brenda (Michael) Higgins, his grandchildren, Michael (Julie) Castor and Katherine Castor, his great-grandchildren, Samuel and Zachary Castor, his sister, Janice Heston of Columbus, and his nieces and nephews.

Friends and family may attend calling hours on Tuesday, October 11th at the Farus Funeral Home of New Concord from 6 to 8PM.  Services will follow on Wednesday, the 12th at the College Drive Presbyterian Church, located at 2 West High Street, at 10AM.  Burial will follow at the New Concord Cemetery.  Pastor Anne Weirich will officiate services.  His family would like to thank the Beckett House and Hospice whose capable and comforting care eased his final months and brought his family peace knowing that he was well cared for.
