David L. Quinn

New Concord

David L. Quinn, Professor of Biology at Muskingum College succumbed, after a long battle to Parkinson’s disease at Morrison House, Zanesville, Ohio on July 25, 2022. He was the third son of Dr. John Quinn and Lois (Fisher) Quinn to pass away in as many years, Dr. Donald Quinn and Douglas Quinn.

Dr. David was a graduate of Steubenville High School where he met Joan Rhoades, his lifetime partner.  David received his BA from Washington Jefferson College, PA., continuing onto Purdue University, IN. where he earned his PhD. His research focused on how the brain controls reproduction, memory and seizures, guided by MX Zarrow. David continued his studies at Duke University, NC for another two years of postdoctoral research, funded by government grants.

In 1965, David accepted a teaching/research position at Muskingum College, New Concord, Ohio where he taught for the next thirty-five years.

David was a member of the Endocrine Society, The Society for Neuroscience and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Upon retirement, David turned his focus on genealogy to follow his family roots in Eastern Ohio and joined the Ohio Genealogical Society and the Jefferson County Chapter of the OGS. He and his wife of 63 years raised three children; John D. (Cindi) Quinn of New Concord, Susan Garner of New Concord, Ohio, and Patricia (Matthew) McCabe of Santa Cruz, California.  His grandchildren include; Kevin Quinn, Vicky (Chris) Untied, Kyle (Alli) Garner, Mathew Hartley, Sydney Hartley, Bella McCabe and Simon McCabe, and his three great grandchildren, Charlie Untied, Lucy Untied and Ellie Garner.

The Family enjoyed living on their farm, traveling to a wilderness camp in Ontario, Canada, exploring the west, and enjoying the times they spent together.

The family would like to thank all the staff of Genesis Hospice, Morrison House for their kindness and professional care given to us during this time of need. We could not do it without you.

A cremation will take place and a private graveside service will be held at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in New Concord.
