Darrel Cubby Cubbison

Darrel “Cubby” Cubbison, 84, of New Concord, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 17, 2021, while at Genesis Hospital in Zanesville.

Cubby was born in Norwich, Ohio on March 28, 1937. He is the son of the late Paul and Wilma (Gibson) Cubbison. As a child, Cubby was active in both Future Farmers of America, as well as 4-H. Cubby was a 1955 graduate of New Concord High School. After high school, Cubby operated “Cubby’s Poultry”, where he dressed and sold poultry. Cubby worked as the manager of Member Services for the Guernsey Muskingum Electric Cooperative, where he lobbied in Washington, DC on behalf of its members. He was a faithful member of the New Concord United Methodist Church and he proudly served his country in the United States National Guard.

In 1972, Cubby was elected to the Muskingum County Fair Board. He held the position of Fair Board President for nearly 50 years. Cubby also served two years as the president of the Ohio Fair Managers Association. Cubby was “the voice” of the Muskingum County Blue Ribbon fair for many years, and didn’t know a stranger inside or outside of the fair grounds. He loved to watch the children show their fair animals and projects, and referred to the kids as, “The reason I do all that I do.” But as much as Cubby loved spending time at the fair, he loved spending time with his family even more.

Cubby is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Carol (Tillett) Cubbison; his children, Amy (Doug) German and Trent Cubbison; his grandchildren, Tyler (Carley) German, Alison (Austin) Holsky; his great-grandchildren, Cali and Bella German, Harper and Ellie Holsky; his siblings, Loreita Slack and Fred (Cinda) Cubbison; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Cubby is preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Bill (Pat) Cubbison; and his brother-in-law Bob Slack.

The family asks that memorial contributions be made in Darrel’s name to go towards permanent improvement projects to any of the following, the Muskingum County Fair, P.O. Box 2176, Zanesville, OH, 43701; East Muskingum Schools, 13120 John Glenn School Road, New Concord, OH, 43762; and the New Concord United Methodist Church, 20 E. High Street, New Concord, OH, 43762.

Visitations will be held on Wednesday, October 20, 2021, from 2 to 7 pm at the Farus Funeral Home of New Concord, 63 W, Main Street, New Concord, OH, 43762, and on Thursday, from 10 am until the time of the service at 11 am, at the New Concord United Methodist Church, 20 E. High Street, New Concord, OH, 43762. Pastor Keith Taylor and Pastor Lisa Kropinak will officiate the service. Cubby will be laid to rest in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
